Year 2 So Far

The science is;

Don’t Melt The Ice!

Some fairy tale characters were frozen by the kind Ice Queen to help keep them safe! The children chose a material to wrap up ice cubes where an image of a fairy tale character had been frozen inside. They needed to choose a material that would help stop the ice from melting quickly.  We discussed that we need to insulate the ice.

The children decided what materials, or combination of materials, they wanted to use to insulate their ice cube. Then we left the ice cubes in tuff trays outside. When we went back to the ice cubes later in the day, we discovered that the ice cubes were insulated better and therefore hadn't melted if they had been wrapped in more than one layer. The children decided if the material was thick then the sun couldn't get to it and melt it.
